| What is a personal chef? A personal chef provides great tasting, healthful, affordable meals for you to enjoy in the comfort of your home without the daily grind of shopping and cooking. It's a convenient and affordable solution to the age old question: "What's For Dinner?" Where do you cook the food? I prepare your meals in the safety of your kitchen. Many clients have asked if I can cook in my home and deliver to them, but state health department regulations require that I cook in your home or in an approved commercial kitchen. How often would you be cooking for me? Typically, I visit your home once every two weeks, cooking enough meals to last for that period. For larger families, I may cook for you once a week, providing enough dinners for that week. How long will it take to cook my meals? It depends on the menu you have chosen, but it can range from 4-6 hours. I’ll be happy to work with you to ensure the cooking date fits into your busy schedule. Do I have to be home while you are cooking? No, most clients are actually away at work while I’m preparing their meals. All I need is a key to your home, or security access code, and any special instructions for entering. I am “invisible” to most clients! Do I have to provide pots, pans, spices or other utensils. for you? I will bring all the cooking utensils, cookware and disposable containers I need for your service. All you need to provide is a clean and working oven and stove, room in freezer and refrigerator for the food and a clean kitchen. Don’t worry about anything except what you’ll be enjoying for dinner! What kind of food do you cook? After meeting with you to discuss your food preferences and dietary needs, I create custom menus based on your likes and dislikes, and then you have final approval of the menus before the cook date. I have hundreds of recipes, including every cuisine and style of food, with most proven to store well in the freezer. I shop the morning of your cook date, to ensure you'll enjoy the freshest ingredients available! I’m on the South Beach/Weight Watchers/Atkins Diet – can you cook that type of food for me? Certainly! I have been on all three diets at some point in my life (!) and have many recipes that follow the guidelines for each diet. I can customize your meal plan to fit virtually any dietary or health needs. I’d love to have a personal chef, but can I afford it? Absolutely! Once you calculate how much money you are spending on fast food, restaurants and wasted food that you meant to get around to cooking, you'll see how truly wonderful and affordable this service is. Your time is valuable, and a personal chef can easily save you 10-12 hours each week in planning, shopping, cooking and clean-up time. Click here for pricing details. How do you store the food? Typically I will use disposable Gladware (or similar brand) containers for most meals, and aluminum foil pans for reheating in the oven. If you prefer Pyrex or other more sturdy containers, you may provide those containers or I’ll be happy to purchase them for you at cost. How will I know how to re-heat or prepare the food? Each package is clearly marked with heating instructions, and I also provide a one-page list of the meals I’ve prepared for you. Any entrees that have been stored for you in your freezer should be defrosted overnight in your refrigerator, and heated according to the label. How do I get started? We’ll discuss what type of food you would like to eat on a weekly basis, and address any dietary restrictions, food allergies, etc. I’ll work with you to personalize a menu specific to your tastes and customize portion sizes based on what you want. Then we’ll set up a convenient cook date upon which I can start preparing meals for you. There is no obligation for you to commit to this service long term, but I think once you’ve tried it, you'll find it's a wonderful solution and very convenient! |
